The China International Conference of Pharmaceutical Innovation & Industry Technology Summit (PITS)

  The China International Conference of Pharmaceutical Innovation & Industry Technology Summit (PITS) sponsored by China Pharmaceutical Technology Transfer Center and China Pharmaceutical Technology Organization (Technology innovation, Technology transfer and Technology administration) in association with national and local relevant authorities, is a high-tech platform of communication and project cooperation for Chinese and foreign pharmaceutical enterprises, new drug research and development organizations and investment corporations to aim directly at the latest progresses in key, bottleneck and common technologies in development and industrialization of chemical drugs, traditional Chinese medicine (natural drugs), biological pharmaceuticals and new formulations.
  PITS was founded in 2003, and the annual forum is held at nationwide locations in the period of time from June to August. Since the founding of the forum, approximately 200 well-known Chinese and foreign organizations and experts have been invited to deliver speeches in the past five years.Approximate 50 innovative, mature and feasible projects have been chosen for discussion in accordance with market requirements on innovative new drug development and technology industrialization.

Section I: Summit forum of advanced technologies

  China welcomes a new historical opportunity in 2008 for scientific, economic and social development. With a new round of reforms in governmental structure and functions, unprecedented state investment has been made to facilitate development in biotech and pharmaceutical industries. In addition, the specific state scientific and technological project of “key innovative new drug development” has been approved by the State Council for initiation and implementation. The policy on healthcare system reform that has attracted so much public attention will be released soon. The new drug surveillance and administration system has been established essentially and is being implemented gradually. Transfer of global pharmaceutical industrial chain into China is picking up speed. All the progresses described above will certainly have a positive and profound impact on independent innovation and development of the Chinese pharmaceutical industries.
  The forum will invite participation and delivery of featured presentations by leaders of relevant state authority responsible for technological, economic, healthcare and pharmaceutical administrations; well-known experts involved in formulation of key state technological and industrial policies and planning for the Chinese pharmaceutical industry; and influential individuals from foreign R&D based pharmaceutical enterprises and new drug development organizations.

3. Design of drug molecules and large-scale highly efficient compound screening
4. Key technologies for drug efficacy and safety evaluations, preparation and druggability prediction, and study on mechanisms of drug actions

6. Key technologies in new process development for high performance synthesis of chemical drugs and synthesis of biological substances
7. Key technologies for drug development in treatment of serious illness
8. Study on novel effective monomers extracted from natural substances or through fermentation and corresponding preparations
9. Study on single optical isomers from known compounds obtained by resolution or synthesis and corresponding preparations
10. Study on drugs with fewer ingredients prepared from constituent-rich preparations

1. Study on monoclonal antibodies and genetically engineered antibody drugs
2. Study on technologies used in large scale animal or plant cell in vitro culture
3. Study on high performance expression of genetically engineered drugs and corresponding production technologies
4. Study on nucleic acid drugs and relevant intermediates
5. Study on stem cells and tissue engineering drugs
6. Drug development using genetic engineering, protein engineering and transgenic technology
7. Key technologies in vaccine preparation against major diseases: Anti-tumor vaccines and new anti-viral vaccines

9. Stem cell technology, RNAi technology, nano-technology, polypeptide analogues, polypeptide modification techniques and corresponding products
10. Biochip technology and products: New process, methods and technologies in isolation, purification, structural modification, quality analysis and monitoring of chemical and biological drugs

8. Study on endangered medicinal plants and GAP application of Chinese medicinal materials, secondary development of traditional Chinese patent prescription and ethnic herbal drugs

1. New delivery system of traditional Chinese medicine: transdermic absorption preparations, controlled release preparations, targeted delivery preparations, controlled release preparations and localization preparations
2. New drug design of traditional Chinese medicine in accordance with clinical, market and production requirement
3. Study on optimization of extraction processing technology for standard extracts of traditional Chinese medicine

1. Study on new drug delivery system including controlled release system, targeted drug delivery system and self-regulated drug delivery system
2. Study on non-injection routes for administration of polypeptides and protein drugs
3. Development of long-acting biodegradable injections
4. Study on cerebral targeted drug delivery system, colon targeted drug delivery system, oral mucosal drug delivery system and protein drug delivery system
5. Study on osmotic pumps and other controlled release delivery systems
6. Study on water soluble poorly absorbed lipid preparations
7. Study on transdermal absorption preparations, controlled release injections, oral (including sublingual) controlled release preparations
8. Applications of nano-technology, liposome technology and microcapsule release technology in pharmaceutical preparations
9. Study on solid dispersion preparations, oral instant preparations and new inhalation preparations (including aerosol and powder preparations)
10. Study on pharmaceutical adjuvant and new high performance industrial enzyme preparations

Section II: Project cooperation workshop
  A nationwide survey on corporate technological demands will be conducted prior to the forum in order to screen highly innovative, mature and feasible developmental projects of new drugs and industrial technologies open to cooperation discussions. During the forum, activities including on-site exhibitions, compiled project documentation, project presentations and organized discussions will be held for cooperation workshop.

  Foreign and Chinese research organizations, universities, engineering centers, technological corporations and pharmaceutical companies are encouraged to recommend contents of exchange and project proposals for new drugs and commercializable technologies proactively in accordance with the aforementioned key topics and project cooperation requirements. The exchange contents, speakers and cooperation projects will be selected after review by the technology committee of the forum. Relevant issues are as follows:

1. The manuscript contents of technical exchange must be novel, scientific and practical without specific requirement on format. Excellent articles will be selected for publication in Chinese Journal of Pharmaceutical Technology Economics and Management (CN 11-5598/R), the only comprehensive journal in technology, finance and economy category. Please forward your manuscript to the sponsor via e-mail. The deadline for thesis collection is 30th June 2008.
2. The acceptable proposals include all innovative, mature, feasible projects for new drug development and technology industrialization in the areas of various chemical drugs, traditional Chinese medicine (natural drugs), biological drugs, new formulations, etc. The deadline for collection of project proposals is 31 May 2008.

  Each participant needs to pay RMB 2,400 forum fee (The rate for each member of China Pharmaceutical Technology Organization is RMB 2,200) that includes forum affair charge, document charge, meal charge, tour and field visit charge. Lodging will be arranged but participants need to pay for the cost.
